We'd like to thank our community partners Los Leones de Mesilla. On Tuesday, they performed 251 eye screenings for students at Hermosa Heights Elementary School and wrote 84 referrals to eye doctors.
Lions Clubs International's vision screening programs help children by identifying potential vision issues and connecting them with eye doctors for further evaluation. Lions Clubs have screened millions of children and have been able to save sight. Go Lions!

In the summer, the Las Cruces Public Schools Safe Routes to school program suffered a setback. On June 17, a storage area at Lynn middle school was broken into and nine bicycles were stolen.
Working quickly with Las Cruces police, our safe routes coordinator, Ashleigh Curry, gathered her team and started searching through social media for any tips or leads on recovering the bikes. After recognizing one of the bikes for sale on Facebook, Ashleigh notified the police, and through a series of quick investigative work, a theft ring was discovered, an arrest was made, and five of the bicycles were recovered, along with two stolen vehicles that were part of a separate investigation.
For their diligent work, Las Cruces Public Schools would like to thank Officer Austin Kane of LCPD and Lieutenant Joy Wiitala. The LCPD unit that investigated and recovered the bikes was the Community Street Crimes Unit, along with the following personnel:
Sgt. Lazarin
Sgt. Campa
Officer Smith
Officer Rodriguez
Officer. Palos
Officer Velasco
Officer Kelley
Officer Kane
Officer Mora
Officer Roybal
Officer Berling

It's time again for Ngage NM's Annual Fundraiser, Celebrity Karaoke. You may remember our partners from Ngage that launched the New Mexico mobile children’s museum and family resource center.
The Virtual Battle of the videos is going on now and will wrap up with our 12th annual Celebrity Karaoke Awards Ceremony this Friday, August 23rd, 2024.
This fundraiser benefits Ngage NM and local participating nonprofits alike. We will have a silent auction, food, drinks, live performances from local nonprofit teams, and, of course, the allocation of the 2024 Doña Ammy Award made by our very own Carrie Hamblen.
Visit CelebrityKaraoke.org to watch all of the videos and participate in voting.

Thank you Major General Gaydon for the invite to the Unfurling Ceremony of the One Star Flag for Brigadier General Turner. Great partnership with LCPS and White Sands Missile Range in the education of our WSMR kiddos and learn more about the importance of our Armed Forces.
